Duenna Tarot / The Immersive Oracle

How do we perceive ourselves, our futures and our fates? Duenna is an immersive exploration into the art of tarot reading. The printed deck of cards is made of illustrative feminine beauty, simple and abstracted depictions of the strength and complexity of women. Alongside the deck is the Duenna mobile app, which allows one to scan and log their readings for further insights, and share and compare them with friends. The feminine divine illuminates the oracle.

THE IDEATION

How do I delve into an exploration of illustration? I’ve never been much of an artist on paper, as you can see from the preliminary sketches below, but since the inception of this project, my digital illustration skills have improved massively. The ideation phase acted as a massive conceptual stepping stone in this project, significantly challenging me in how to go about depicting each card in independently lovely and symbolic ways.

the brand

The word ‘duenna’ comes from mid-seventeenth century Spanish, meaning a feminine guardian, a strong and compelling woman. This brand's mission is to empower women through the depiction of our bodies’ power and our minds’ fortitude. The moon is inherent not only to tarot, but all forms of witchcraft. The woman’s face peaking through the moon is a hint to what is to come.

The deck

Below is the major arcana deck, the other cards are currently in progress. All illustrations are silver foil stamped onto the cards.

With the Duenna mobile app, users are able to scan cards from the deck in order to get further insights into readings. Users can log past readings and share and compare readings with friends through their feed. Duenna makes tarot reading friendlier and more accessible. Please demo the interactive prototype below!
